Wise old fool on all hallows eve

Last year I was apart of a halloween art show.
It was a little disappointing because my piece was the one of the only paintings with a "halloween theme". Plus I had to pay a hanging fee of $10.00 per work (I promised myself I would never again pay to show)

and a smaller painting I did of a mushroom.

Here is the progression and final piece I painted for that show.

Halloweek

October is one of my favorite months, and Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I thought I'd devote an entire week to all things that sparkle with sneek or go bump in the night. you get what I mean :)

I made this mask last year. It's a little beat up, but I still love it.
I used it as halloween decor for my front window.

Secondhand Haunts VIIII

Let's just pretend today is sunday. I was having a bit of trouble importing the photos from my friends camera (which I'm borrowing). I ended up having to buy a memory card reader.

The quality of pictures taken with his Canon 40D is amazing, and puts my Canon rebel (which I bought six years ago as a graduation present to myself) to shame.

I'll be shooting with this camera as long as I possibly can.

This picture I found at Goodwill for $2.99.

Its made of yarn and was crafted the year I was born (1986)

I've slowly started to decorate my walls with artwork other than my own

The camera didn't even pick up the reflection off the glass in the frame!!!

Neverland

Last year, after I had finished the album cover for Morning Flowers, my friend Bryan (also in Dulce de Leche) asked me to make a piece for his hypothetical magazine about visceral art.
With all the wet oil paint left over from Morning Flowers
 I painted this.

Nothing was planned
(i usually do a great deal of planning in my sketchbook).
I was just playing with the leftover paint.
It makes me feel like I'm breaking through into neverland through the clouds of early morning.

*note: Bryan never finished the first edition of his magazine

Adventure with Enid and Edgar

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, I love Sandy and Jason (Enid & Edgar) In addition to being the kindest people in the world, they own a truly amazing Vintage store.
Their store is located in Silverlake, Ca. on a cozy street called Hoover.
The Russian Red and Sea Foam Green paint easily stand out against all the other storefronts.

They have a fabulous selection of affordable records and fantastic books (most are under $5.00)
as well as a treasure trove of knick-knacks and vintage apparel
(The clothing hangs from tree branches!!!)

This is my absolute favorite feature in the entire store.
The little fox hole makes me feel like a fuzzy powder blue spider will come down to greet me, and give me advice on the outfit I'm trying on, because it also doubles as a dressing room :)

The store is also home to several displays of handmade arts and crafts from local vendors. Now including yours truly.

You can purchase my paintings at
510 1/2 n hoover st los angeles ca 90026
tuesday-sunday 12-7 pm

This is a photograph of Sandy and her two youngest.
I love everything about this picture, I only wish Jason and their oldest kiddo were in it.

*Thank you again to Sandy and Jason for giving my artwork  a fantastical temporary home *

...I'm back on etsy

I've decided to activate my etsy account...at least for now, I still have plans to build my own store. I have this painting listed, and plan on listing more soon. cheaper ones :) But this painting of Link (from Zelda), Princess Peach and Luigi (from Super Mario Bros.) is worth every penny. It's currently splashing the white walls of my apartment with much needed color, so I won't be too disappointed if nobody buys it.

Secondhand Haunts VIII

I found this puzzle at a thrift sore called, "Thrift Store" in Reseda, Ca

The color wheel puzzle cost me $2.99
and has already been enjoyed by a nine month old and a four year old in two completely different ways

Beyond Eden

This weekend, I went to Beyond Eden at the LA Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. Beyond Eden is an art fair showcasing the new contemporary art scene in Los Angeles. The galleries included are Carmichael Gallery, C.A.V.E. Gallery, Copro Gallery, Crewest, La Luz De Jesus, LeBasse Projects, and Thinkspace.

some live painting from Mr. John Park

A sculpture from Kathie Olivas, one of the co-founders of my favorite magazine (Hi Fructose

and last, but not least Nathan Ota!!!

His artwork was by far the brightest jewel in the entire gallery.
He came and taught at my illustration class once a semester.
I learned a great deal from him in just a few hours.
His paintings are pure magic.
